Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine is the primary treatment modality within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Herbal medicine is used as a stand alone treatment, or in conjunction with acupuncture. Many of the classical Chinese herbal formulas still in use today were introduced more than 2,000 years ago, a testament to their safety and effectiveness. Most herbal formulas consist of two to eighteen different herbs, used to treat a wide variety of symptoms while stimulating the body’s natural ability to heal. Hospital studies prescribing individualized complex herbal formulas have demonstrated excellent results for patients who failed to respond or had adverse reactions to conventional pharmaceutical treatments. In China, traditional herbal medicine is often combined with modern biomedical treatment, and many hospitals integrate both Western and Eastern modalities in the care and treatment of patients. Although acupuncture was the first Chinese modality to gain wide acceptance in the West, Chinese herbal medicine is quickly becoming one of the most popular and effective therapies. At Ann Arbor Healing Arts we use concentrated granular powders which dissolve instantly in warm water for convenience and ease of use. Although we also carry a selection of patent formulas (pills), our granular pharmacy allows us to individually customize herbal formulas to meet the specific needs and address the unique constitution of each patient.
